Match Action
Rally Madison FC controlled much of the game’s tempo in the opening minutes, continuing to connect successfully on passes and tallying some dangerous drives into Rockford’s box. Despite their offensive pressure, Rally conceded a goal in the sixth minute when Rockford converted a through ball into a short-distance shot from the right side of the box to slip the ball past the gloves of goalkeeper, Malia Zillman. Despite the early deficit, Rally continued to amp up the pressure on Rockford’s backline. Taylor Gordon tallied some eye-catching chances on goal, including a shot in the 14th minute that forced a Rally corner. Rally’s breakthrough came shortly after in the 15th minute, when a corner from Gordon met Elsa Maurer on the opposite side of the field. Maurer’s dangerous cross into Rockford’s goalie box connected with Clare Shea, who headed the ball into the net for her first Rally goal. In the last minutes of the half, Rally Madison’s backline continued to limit offensive pushes from Rockford, including a key block from Maddie Arthur before Zillman came up big with a diving save in the 45th minute.
Eager to break the stalemate, Rally Madison entered the second half with newfound energy. In the 53rd minute, Zoe Hevey gifted Madison the lead on a shot into the top left of the net after driving into an open lane on the left side of the field to break towards Rockford’s goalkeeper. Madison and Rockford continued to trade control of the ball in the middle minutes of the second half before the Raptors leveled the game by converting on a cross.
Rally nearly grabbed the lead once again when Hevey broke away for another unassisted push down the left side of the field, but was unable to convert. As the tide shifted in Rockford’s favor, Zillman came up with an impressive one-handed diving save in the 81st minute to keep Rally level. Rockford continued to pressure Rally’s defensive zone, converting on a shot in the 88th minute to steal the lead. Just one minute later, however, Rally’s Trinnity Wyttenbach set the game level after connecting with the ball right in front of the goal to slip it past Rockford. Madison and Rockford searched for the winning goal in the game’s final minutes but couldn’t convert, with both teams ending the night with a point apiece.
With tonight’s 3-3 draw, Rally Madison FC extended its unbeaten streak to four as they head into their final two games of the season.
